HOSDV provides zero interest, zero payment, forgiveable loans to help veterans with service-connected disabilities to fund accessibility improvements that they can’t afford to make and maintain their mortgage, putting them at risk of foreclosure. An applicant must be a U.S. veteran with a Disability Rating Decision Letter or other acceptable verification from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The home must be owned and occupied by the applicant. Eligible improvements are disability modifications to the home that enhance accessibility, including, but not limited to:

  • Widening doorways or hallways;
  • Lowering counter tops;
  • Adding exterior ramps; and
  • Installing grab bars or roll-in showers in bathrooms.
